PSP battles rough seas to deliver luxury yachts on its inaugural sailing to the Miami Boat Show

Hampshire-based PSP (Premier Shipping and Packing) is celebrating a successful Miami Boat Show on more than one front as it battled rough seas off the US coast to make sure its first trip to the event arrived on time.
After a busy start to 2010 at the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show, PSP was asked to ship Sunseeker motor yachts from Southampton to the Miami Boat Show, as well as sailing yachts on behalf of several racing teams.
But it was anything but plain sailing as the vessel, which was loaded in Southampton using PSP’s own cradles, encountered eight-metre swells as it headed for the US coast.
PSP Managing Director, Frank Dixie, said:
“It looked as if the vessel would be delayed, but the skipper took his foot off the throttle and then put his foot down as soon as the storm abated. It was a real team effort.”
PSP staff met the ship in Miami to oversee discharge – making sure the five Sunseekers were handed over safely and on time, despite the bad weather.
Paul Burgess, of Sunseeker Florida, said:
“It was a very successful shipment and working with PSP has given us a freight partner with great communication skills and flexible to our needs.
“The vessel carrying the show boats arrived at the port we wanted and on time, which allowed us to schedule our team to clean and present the boats before the show. It’s these type of things that make the difference when you are working to tight time frames.”
PSP Director Shaun Parsons attended the show to support the US members of the PSP Alliance – a worldwide association of professional yacht transporters.
He said:
“It was a big success with the safe and on-time arrival of the Sunseeker yachts and now we can prepare for the Fort Lauderdale show in October.”
