PSP work flat out to get new masts to Finnish Clipper Yacht
Posted: 26 March 2010
Hampshire-based PSP (Premier Shipping and Packing) saved the day by rapidly transporting two new masts from the UK to China after Team Finland suffered a broken mast during the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
The operation involved transporting two 15m masts from Devon to China via Luxembourg.
The PSP team worked flat out from beginning to end, with PSP Alliance members in China, Helka, helping to negotiate a quick clearance through Chinese customs. They were able to save three days thanks to these negotiations. The mast arrived during Chinese New Year – the country’s biggest family celebration – and the PSP team persuaded customs officers to return especially to see the shipment through.
This allowed Team Finland to rejoin the race just a week after sustaining the damage in adverse weather conditions off the coast of Taiwan.
PSP Managing Director, Frank Dixie, said:
“Our team pulled out all the stops on this one. Thanks to our alliance we were able to ship these masts across the globe to keep Team Finland in the race.”
